EPC and O&M Contractors

Triumph has appointed XJ Engineering Limited, a Chinese firm, as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contractor for this project. The O&M contract with XJ Engineering runs for a period of 10 years starting from the commissioning date of the project.

Off-Taker

The off taker is Kenya Power and Lighting Company (Kenya Power). Kenya Power is the sole electricity transmission and distribution company in Kenya which contracts with various power generators to purchase electrical energy for onward distribution. The company has extensive experience and a flawless payment record with purchasing power from independent power producers (IPPs).

About Us

Triumph Power Generating Company Limited (“Triumph”) is a Limited Liability Company incorporated in Kenya for the purposes of bidding for and developing an 83 ML/ heavy fuel oil-fired power plant in Athi River, on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. In February 2010, Triumph was announced as a successful bidder and was awarded the right to negotiate with Kenya Power and Lighting Company (“Kenya Power”) to design, finance, supply, erect, commission, operate and maintain an 83 MW heavy fuel oil-fired power plant.

EPC and O&M Contractors

Triumph has appointed XJ Engineering Limited, a Chinese firm, as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor and Mann Diesel Energy Kenya Limited as Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contractor for this project.

Off-taker

The off taker is Kenya Power and Lighting Company (Kenya Power). Kenya Power is the sole electricity transmission and distribution company in Kenya which contracts with various power generators to purchase electrical energy for onward distribution. The company has extensive experience and a flawless payment record with purchasing power from independent power producers (IPPs).

The power purchase agreement between KPLC and Triumph has a validity period of 20 years with an option of extension if agreed by both parties.

Political Risk Insurance Provider

Triumph has secured political risk insurance from the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), a member of the World Bank Group, to secure the project’s debt repayments against events of political risk that could limit the project company’s ability to meet its obligations to its lenders.

Triumph has further obtained a partial risk guarantee facility from the International Development Agency (IDA), also a member of the World Bank Group securing 3 months’ worth of payments for power from Kenya Power. This facility took the form of a standby letter of credit from JP Morgan.

Current Status

The construction of buildings, Equipment Foundations and installation of all equipment is complete. Testing and commissioning of Diesel Engines and Auxiliary equipment is 100% complete. Reliability and capacity demonstration tests, SFOC and SLOC tests have all been done, before achieving The Interim Commercial Operation. The company is now in Commercial Operation from 2nd of February 2016. The steam Turbine unit test demonstrated an output of 6.14 MW. Triumph is expecting a notification from the off-taker confirming the Full Commercial Operation Date being the 2nd of February 2016.

Environmental Policy

 

We have established this Environmental Policy to be consistent with the purpose and context of our Organisation.  It provides a framework for the setting and review of environmental objectives in addition to our commitment towards the following:

 

  • Protect the environment, including the prevention of pollution;

 

  • To sustainable resource use, climate change mitigation, protection of biodiversity and ecosystems; waste management and green house gases emission

 

  • Conform to applicable legislative, regulatory and compliance obligations;

 

  • Continually improve our Environmental Management System and to enhance environmental performance.

 

We have produced environmental objectives which relate to this policy and they can be found in document EMP-TPG-EO1 (Environmental Objectives.) in our EMS Manual.

 

This policy is communicated to all interested parties as well as being made available to the wider community through publication on our Website and Company Notice board
